Grants

Support across the academic career.

Our programs provide fellowships, research grants, and leadership support at each stage, from the dissertation through post-tenure scholarship. All programs are administered through partner universities and awarded on the basis of scholarly merit.

Programs

  • Dissertation Fellowships

Multi-year support for advanced PhD candidates conducting dissertation research in the humanities and social sciences.

  • Postdoctoral Fellowships

Residential fellowships that place early-career scholars in leading departments, with dedicated time for research and mentorship from senior faculty.

  • Pre-Tenure Research Grants

Project-based support for junior faculty, funding research assistance, data collection, conferences, publication, and protected research time.

  • Post-Tenure Research Grants

Multi-year support for tenured faculty to create or expand scholarly initiatives, mentor graduate students, and lead collaborative research.

  • Academic Leadership Support

Professional development for senior faculty moving into department, center, or institutional leadership roles.

Selection

Awards are made through competitive peer review by tenured faculty drawn from the relevant disciplines, consistent with the norms of scholarly practice. The Foundation does not direct the content of research.

Recipients are hosted by their home institutions under standard appointment and oversight processes.

Working with us

We work in close partnership with universities and scholarly networks to identify scholars whose work merits sustained support. Most of our grants are made through these partnerships and through invitations to scholars whose work we have come to know.

Scholars, faculty chairs, and institutional representatives interested in our work are welcome to write to us.
